The 13-official games winning streak is over. Olimpia couldn’t sustain a great first half effort and lost in Athens 86-75 against Olympiacos. Olimpia led by as many as eight points in the first half, but probably didn’t capitalize enough in the early part of the game, missing a couple of open shots in its best minutes and allowing Georgios Printezis to make two buzzer-beating shots in the first half. So at the half, Olimpia was up by six. In the second half, Olympiacos’ physicality took over, Olimpia’s percentages went down “because they were good at taking away our best situations,” Coach Ettore Messina remarked. Besides, Olympiacos improved from the outside, building god shots off dribble drives, especially with Harrison. Kostas Sloukas did the rest, orchestrating well his offense, getting the baton from Printezis’ errorless first half. Olympiacos started the second half with three straight three-pointers. “We allowed them too many staright line penetrations that resulted also in open threes,” Messina said. Olimpia had a great first half by Sergio Rodriguez, who scred 15 of his 18 points. Michael Roll did a great job in the second half especially, finishing with 16 points. But they weren’t enough in a ice-cold shooting night by many of the players that fueled the winning streak. Sergio Rodriguez tied Dimitris Diamantidis at the third place ever for assists, while extending his streak with at least a three-pointer made to 16.
