Olimpia had to test itself in the closing minutes of its first preseason game, edging Casale 76-73.  The game was close with a 6-0 run that turned a three-point deficit into a three-point win. It was a weird game, that Olimpia controlled early because of its defense that kept Casale at 26 first-half points. The lead ballooned to 18 early in the second half, but Casale kept pushing, had a 25-point third quarter and late in the game was able to take an unexpected lead. Down by three, Olimpia – struggling all night long to connect from the arc – tied the score at 73 with a Sergio Rodriguez bomb. On the next offensive possession, Kaleb Tarczewski converted at point blank what amounted to be the go-ahead for good basket. In the last couple of defensive possessions, Olimpia was really good and kept Casale from scoring. Tarczewski led all the scorers with 25 points, 12 rebounds, 13 trips to the line. The point guards-Tarczewski combination worked pretty well. Shelvin Mack and Rodriguez combined for 14 assists, equally distributed. Olimpia was great when it could run the floor, while it didn’t score a single three in the first half, missing the first nine attempts. Aaron White grabbed nine rebounds to complement the enormous work that Tarczewski produced in the paint.
